One bug I discovered in the Atari ST version. If ingame you press the shift key, the game crashes and exits to the desktop. Which is a bit ironic, but also the first thing I tried when I started the game, as I seem to remember that the Flash version used the shift key for shifting!
I love this idea! One hint on the ATARI ST version: as it is a monochrome game I intuetively tryed it in High-Res mode. And it chrashes without any information. Best add the information that this is an ST-Low game.
That said: this would be an amazing game for this ST High-Res mode! Please make a High-Res version!!! Hahah!
Thanks. I've added a note about the Low Resolution configuration.
As for the high-resolution version, Shift uses the Line-A emulator for the software sprite. I will have to check if it works in he high-resolution configuration too.
C64 version, level 17. There are two ways to get in the exit door. One is the long way, and the other is very short. Unfortunatly, neither are the answer to the secret level. Maybe a bug? (I have not tried the Amiga version yet.)
See the VIPER's retrogame videos comment below and follow the YOUTUBE video to find the answer to the secret level. Nice homage to Tenebra and Tenebra 2 for the exit to the secret level. I would have never found it without the comment in VIPER's video.
What a wonderful game! Itβs great to see that c64 games are still being written all these years later. I really hope you create a sequel as I had a lot of fun completing this game. Never found the secret level but it is a reason to play through again. Keep up the great games. Thank you.
Excellent puzzle game, reminds me of βAnd Yet It Movesβ. Works seamlessly under FS-UAE on my old Mac! Thanks to Haplo for supporting the Amiga platform in 2024.
Despite (or perhaps because of) the simple graphic style, this is certainly one of the most innovative puzzle games we have ever played. Our German-language review can be found in our recorded livestream starting at 03:27:04. English subtitles are also available. Subscription to our YouTube and Twitch channel is welcome. π
I loved it! I was looking for games that could be played with an e-ink monitor when I discovered Tenebra, now this one works perfectly too (though it adds a bit of extra difficulty due to the low refresh rate). Thank you for making these games!
yea this is quite something, i have to wonder if the levels are a.i. generated or some people actually got around a table and wrecked their brains to make up interesting puzzles
that makes it even more amazing, you seem to have a thing for monochrome off-the-track puzzlers ... im looking forward to more, thanks for all the work
I guess the access to the secret level can be found in level 26 (that was too easy). However, I didn't feel like re-recording the video from there, so here's my longplay without the secret level.
Great news. What's not so great is that preview levels are gone and you have to start from the beginning once again. Make it to level 12 in about 10 minutes. And I laughed when i saw this message :
Hi,I slightly modified the title screen. If you like it, feel free to use it. If you have some request, I can further modify it. Cheers from Germany. I could also send ArtStudio file if needed.
Listen up!! I am not joking! But make this into an adventure game with dialog box, cutscene, substance, story and I am willing to pay you 79.99 like that price for modern console game. You just made a game right there that look like you can buy from an apple store or run on a PS 4 system. All you need is a very good captivating story, cut scene, animated cutscene...listen...you can use d81 format if you want more space to store medias like audio, voice, animation, cutscenes and levels. I am playing now most of my games on my c64 using a real Commodore 1581. I would love to see more games released for this drive to be honest.
But seriously...this game has potential to be a good horror or adventure/platform game with awesome story...awesome cutscenes. Please consider my advice. I have my eyes on this game and I pray you make this potential game shine for it's great potential where it stands right now.
Thanks! The way you finished level 6 was not the intended way; you got lucky because of a bug that I fixed a couple of hours after releasing the preview.

Not really a bug...during the development I used the SHIFT key for a clean exit back to the desktop, and I left it in there.
Amazing game!!!
I love this idea!

Yes the short way to finish 17 was unintended. A couple of other levels have the same issue. They were fixed in the Amiga version.
Thank you for the information. Playing Shift has been a lot of fun.

Haplo, I got Amiga Bill addicted to your game hahaha https://www.twitch.tv/amigabill
Thanks, this was most entertaining!
Excellent AMIGA-Version. A friend of mine played it. We love it! ππΉοΈ
yea this is quite something, i have to wonder if the levels are a.i. generated or some people actually got around a table and wrecked their brains to make up interesting puzzles
The latter...
that makes it even more amazing, you seem to have a thing for monochrome off-the-track puzzlers ... im looking forward to more, thanks for all the work
Thank you. A third of the puzzles were from Antony Lavelle, the rest were designed by me.
thats good to see in this day and age, thanks for the great game
Hi! Great conversion and greatg game in general... no Plus/4 version of this? ;-)
Jokes aside, are you planning to port it to any other retro-platform?
Yes, that's the intention. Let's see!
The Amiga port is amazing.
I guess the access to the secret level can be found in level 26 (that was too easy). However, I didn't feel like re-recording the video from there, so here's my longplay without the secret level.
Update: It is not on level 26. If anyone wants to know the solution, it is in the comments on my video.
Very good game. I also added it to my new "Gameplay of New C64 Games from May 2024" video.
Just finished it. Last level was evil! A great game from the start to the beginning. I did not find the access to the bonus level, too bad :(
Congratulations !
Awesome game. I understand it but I don't know why!! Got to level 19 on my first try. Thank you
Good ideas, very playable! :) https://c64universe.wordpress.com/2024/05/26/shift-2024-haplo/
Forget to add. I made a video showing the first 12 levels using the Atari 8bit port.
Enjoy!
Great news. What's not so great is that preview levels are gone and you have to start from the beginning once again. Make it to level 12 in about 10 minutes. And I laughed when i saw this message :
Made it to level 18, and this one really hurts... I cannot imagine how hard are the level after this one...
Edit: solved level 18, it is tricky. Now I made it to level 20. Keeping some levels for tomorrow now :)
Well, I'm stuck at level 34 for now. I hope to beat the last two tomorrow afternoon. It is a great game so far.
Any hint for secret level please?
One of the levels has a hidden exit.
Ok. This is why I do not find it... Well I'll wait a few days before starting the game from scratch again :)
Awesome game!

Very good idea and game. I also added it to my new "Gameplay of New 8 bit Atari games, January to April 2024" video.

very good
Wooo! en el video no se alcanza a apreciar lo interesante y jugable de este juego, probad la demo!!
Good job. I love it. :)

Fantastic game, I like it very much.
Awesome!
this is super cool!!
Great game, can't wait for the final version. I finished the first 9 levels, and level 9 breaks my... Until I find the logic of this level :)
I recorded a longplay for the 9 first levels, with level 6 kicking my... too many times.
Enjoy :)
Thanks!

Ah, you'll tell me so. I saw the video you sent me. And yes, I was very very very lucky :)
Well, now this bug is no more for the full version,
I'll try again this level with the full version. I also finished level 10. Can't wait to play the full version, now :)
Good game π Waiting for the full version π
We will describe it in K&A PLUS π
